STUDENT VISA
To study in Thailand, international students need a Non-Immigrant Education Visa, or Category ED Visa. It is highly recommended to apply for this student visa as early as possible before planning to arrive in Thailand. Applications should be submitted personally at the nearest Royal Thai Embassy, Kathmandu.
Once in Thailand, international students must check in with their local immigration office every 90 days. Students can check-in up to 7 days before or after the 90-day mark. However, missing this check-in within the allowed time frame will lead to a fine of 2000 Thai baht, equivalent to about NPR 7500. Students can check in in person, via proxy, or by sending their documents via registered mail.
Additionally, international students must ensure to extend their visa for up to 90 days, and no more, after their initial arrival. It is crucial to start the extension process at least 15 days before the expiration date of the visa. If students fail to meet these deadlines, it can result in fines of 500 Thai baht, or around NPR 2000 per day. To initiate the visa extension, students can visit the International Relations Division of their university. They need to submit a copy of their passport along with their request.
Finally, international students with only a single entry visa must obtain a single or multiple re-entry permit from the Immigration Bureau if they wish to travel outside Thailand amidst their studies.
